WP10 – Qualitative methodological advance

Work package leader: Ivo Šauman

Objective of WP10 is a step to research elite through the purchase of an expensive but highly needed microscope that would allow continuous monitoring of developmental and physiological processes in living cells. Serious limitations of most current methods used to this end are eliminated with luminescence detection using a Bioluminescence Imaging System. Therefore one unique piece of such equipment was requested.

Specific objective is the achievement of qualitative increase of research efficiency and output, and promotion of collaborations through instrument sharing.

Main tasks

T 10.1: Selection procedure

T 10.2: Instrument purchase

T 10.3: Beginning of the microscope use

Beginning of the microscope use, optimization of instrument performance, tests with different cell types and compatibility of the research tasks with provided software. Training of personnel, in particular of the person who is responsible for the smooth and safe use.

Progress

The instrument was delivered on June 21, 2013 after fulfilment of all legal requirements and completion of public tender. Initial software problems were eliminated and the operation of the instrument could be launched; the microscope has fully been used for research since August 2013.
